Our Frequently Asked Questions

Check Back In Soon!

  • Can You Board My Cat or Dog?

Presently, we can and do board cats overnight. We can board dogs during the day only. We are looking to resume overnight canine kennel facilities sometime in 2022.

  • My dog’s leg is broken. Can you take x-rays?

We take x-rays of legs and just about any other body part.  There is a really good chance that his or her leg is not actually broken.  More than 90% of all pets with hurt legs, limping etc. only have soft tissue injuries rather than a broken bone.

  • What do I do if my cat or dog is vomiting? Is it an emergency?

Vomiting 1 time usually is not cause for concern.  If your pet vomits several times in 1 day, take away all food for at least 12 hours and call us or the Emergency Clinic in Boone for treatment.

  • Do you take emergencies?

Day time emergencies, yes.  After Hours, only as a follow up for a patient we have treated in the past 7 days (an active case).

For a true overnight or weekend emergency, please call the Animal Emergency Clinic of the High Country in Boone at 828 268 2833.

  • When can I spay or neuter my dog/cat?

Presently there is conflicting data on when is the ideal age for this.  We recommend this to be done around 6 months of age. This provides a good balance between enough growth for safety of anesthesia and still prevents unwanted pregnancy and achieving the medical benefits (such as cancer of the reproductive organs) of the spay/neuter.

  • What flea/tick and heartworm preventatives do you carry?

We recommend and carry Interceptor Plus for heartworms and intestinal worms.

For fleas and ticks we recommend monthly oral Credelio or Bravecto which is given every 3 months.

We also have Trifexis which is a monthly combination product for heartworms/intestinal worms and fleas.

  • Which Prescription pet diets do you have?

We carry both the Hill’s Veterinary Diets as well as Purina Rx Veterinary Diets for management of many different diseases.  Examples include Kidney Disease, Diabetes, Food Allergies and Weight Management.
